Picnik

Had never even heard of Picnik and as someone who has always wanted to learn how to use Photoshop etc, I was really pleased with this element of 23 things.

I managed to create my account and upload a couple of pictures- I have lightened a picture that was originally too dark: so that you can now clearly see Mister B the dog!

I also managed to have a go at turning a picture of berries into something a bit more interesting. This was my very first attempt at editing- so I am sure it can only get better. I am looking forward to having another go at Picnik, and would be really interested if anyone know of any other similar sites like this one- as it can be quite limited unless you pay!!

Flickr

Well, i've had a look at Flickr- have never really used it before as I never really saw the point. most of us use FaceBook to share our pictures! Having looked through the website a bit more though, and found a number of interesting groups- i now quite like it!

I even got a bit lost in time looking through all the pictures and searching for places etc

I have set up my account and have put some 'snow' pictures up for all to see... I even added a couple to the 23 things group, as well as geo tagging one of them. This is a really good feature, I liked placing my pictures in the location of which they were taken.

Things 5 and 6

Well having had no idea what an RSS feed was- I think i have finally got the hang of it. I have set up my Google Reader account. At first, I have to say, I didnt quite see the point as there wasnt that much on the page that was of interest to me. Once I subscribed to the 23 things blog though, i all started to become clear!! So you can use the reader page to get updates on things that are off interest to you.
So, I set off on my mission to find more RSS feeds for my Google Reader. First I went to the BBC, seemed like the obvious place to start- and this was quite straight forward.. I found the RSS link, and it set up it in the same way as the '23 things'... I then tried to think of websites that I use quite regularly to try and set up some feeds in the same way- this is where I came a little stuck. i was trying to locate the term RSS feed on all of the sites- not realising that the little orange symbol was the key!!

I have now returned to the sites that I didnt think had RSS links- and found that they actually all did- and by clicking on the little orange symbol, it set up the feeds that I was interested in. I have links to BBC, CIPD ( thought I should have something remotely work related), V Festival to see when I can get my ticket (and who is in the line up), o2 Oxford, and New Theatre Oxford- both to get updates on whats coming up. Now finding the RSS feeds very useful and will definately be continuing to use this in the future...

Blogs

I have had a go at customising my blog, and I think I am starting to get the hang of this 'blogging' thing! I have added a picture of myself, changed my theme, and added a couple of gadgets.

just reading the next 'thing' and it talks about RSS feeds... no idea what one of these is- so going to carry on and sign up to Google reader in the hope that this helps me understand...

Never too late!

I have finally registered with 23 things- I guess I have now commited myself :)

My aim this week is to take a look at some of the blogs already underway - and I might even become a 'follower'!!

Things 1 and 2

Well, I have now set up m iGoogle page and it was surprisingly easy to follow the '23 things' instructions... which was a relief!! I kept putting it off and putting it off and I wasnt sure exactly what it all involved. Glad I have now made a start though, and so far seem to be doing okay.

Setting up an iGoogle page was good, and I now have some gadgets that will feature on my home page that I think might be really useful (maybe not the virtual pets though!!)

Cathy 23 Things!! Finally...

I have finally started my '23 things'... and I now have a pet hamster and some pet penguins on my iGoogle homepage!! I also have Pac Man and Tetris set up, didnt realise that iGoogle existed until today so I guess I have learnt something already!!

I am not really sure about Web 2 technologies other than Face Book!! so this whole programme will be one long learning curve.

As my current understand of all things Web 2 is quite vague, I am hoping to learn more about what Web 2 actually means, and how it can be used to help me at work- may be even improving the way that i work...
